My Paati's Saris Giveaway
Happy Poetry Friday folks! Today, we're hosted by the wonderful Ruth! Thanks Ruth!
Fridays are an interesting time for me this month-- Friday is both my planting day and my poetry day! That's a lot for one day! This year we are planting a bevy of berries-- serviceberries, dangleberries, huckleberries, and more! It's possible there will be a list poem coming soon, but today...
For the last Friday of Poetry Month, I want to highlight the utterly fabulous My Paati's Saris by Jyoti Rajan Gopal, illustrated by Art Twink. Friends... this book is a delight, plain and simple. Jyoti takes us on a journey of self expression rooted in Tamil culture, family tenderness, and the viscaeral joy of wearing the clothes that match your heart. Art Twink's illustrations explode with color and merriment. On a gloomy day, this is the book to lighten your mood.
While Jyoti doesn't speak about gender explicitly in the book, in my opinion this book reflects an incredible experience of gender euphoria... made all the more beautiful by Paati's unwavering love and support. Looking for a queer joy picture book? This is for you.
I'm giving away a copy of My Paati's Saris to someone who comments. Happy Poetry Friday!
